Artist Statement

Marcia Kathleen Streepy

Art has always been an integral part of my life. I started painting with my mother, Pat Potucek, as a child. We would ride out to the country to find the perfect spot to paint and have a picnic.   The sweet aroma of spring flowers, the feel of warm breeze on a summer day, the crunch of dry leaves in the Fall is part of the glorious feeling of painting on location. Pastels, oils, watercolors and acrylics are all equally enjoyable whether done on location or in the studio.

I graduated from Marymount College with a degree in Nursing (BSN) and worked many years as an RN in hospitals, schools and public health. I am married, the mother of two daughters, and the grandmother of two adorable grandchildren.

Throughout my career I have both continued to perfect my craft as an artist by painting at every opportunity and improving my skills by taking art classes at Marymount College, Kansas University, Washburn University and Johnson County Community college, as well as attending numerous workshops with notable artists. I have been honored to show my works in national and international exhibitions across United States, and I have received awards. I am represented by Artichokes Gallery, Leawood, KS, Strecker Nelson Gallery, Manhattan, KS and The Gallery in the Flint Hills in Cottonwood, KS.
